USPS Delivery Exception, Animal Interference

Business has been going slow lately and you don’t know why. You’ve invested a high amount of time, and also, of course, greenbacks just to ensure that spike or boost in your earnings to no avail. You finally try the last strategy and hope for the best. And…it worked! Your profit curve increases exponentially and then you hit big. One of your customers just ordered packages in bulk to be delivered on the other side of the country. “Sure. I can do that!”.

You send off the packages through the USPS service and track its journey expectantly waiting for the “delivered”  notification. But it never comes. You rather see the bold words “Delivery Exception, Animal Interference”. “What’s happening?”.

Moments later, the dreaded call of the customer comes through demanding a reasonable explanation or, more conveniently, a refund. Or…taking a scenario where you’re a customer who has ordered a product from a large agency such as Amazon or eBay and is lucky enough to get the tracking ID. The package is invaluable and you wait anxiously but it never comes. Instead of “delivered” notification, you face “Delivery Exception, Animal Interference”.

As different as these events may be, they still leave similar unanswered questions. “What is meant by Animal Interference?”, “Is the package lost in transit?”. Read on as these and more will be answered.

What is a delivery exception?

Before we understand what “Delivery Exception, Animal Interference” really means, it’s best we fully grasp the idea of a delivery exception. Most shipping couriers and postal agencies differ in their delivery exceptions but we would focus more on the USPS service. Delivery exceptions are any activity or event that could cause a delay, or even a permanent inability, in delivering packages.

This may be due to certain factors such as incorrect addresses, bad weather occurrences, holidays, and as we would later find more about, animal interference. Often at times, these factors are in no way intentional and occur due to unforeseen circumstances(such as weather occurrences and even some holidays). “Yeah. Right. I’ve not dozed off yet. Now can you explain what the animal interference part really means?”. Sure.

What is meant by “Delivery Exception, Animal Interference”?

Delivery Exception, Animal Interference is a form of delivery exception that has to do with animals. Yes…as simple as that. Let’s imagine a delivery man whistling as he drives to your address to give you your package. As he approaches your gate or front porch as the case may be, he comes across your pet lion who looks at him hungrily. I don’t think anyone would love to remain there for a long time and as he cannot just drop your package off without having it signed, he has no other option than to update its status on his scanner with ‘Delivery Exception, Animal Interference’. Now, of course, it is highly unlikely to have a pet lion, you get the gist. ‘Animal Interference’ may refer to several occurrences such as an intimidating dog pet, a swarm of bees, or even a flock of angry chickens having a protest (I mean, it’s possible, right?).

What do I do if I receive the notification ‘Delivery Exception, Animal Interference’.

The obvious answer here is to make sure you properly leash your pet or avoid leaving it out on the day of the expected delivery. But what if it was no fault of yours? Maybe you do not have any pet and you’re pretty sure your neighbors do not either. Well, in that case, it would be best to call the customer support line to find out more. They, in turn, could contact the delivery guy for more info on what could have been the cause. Normally, when the package cannot be delivered on a particular day due to animal interference, the date is shifted to the next business/working day.

Conclusion

The message “Delivery Exception, Animal Interference” does not necessarily mean the package is lost in transit. Although this may happen a few times, we should take precautionary measures or contact customer support in order to alleviate our fears.
